This is my story about how Life Walk GPS came into being.
I first started doing online businesses in 1999. I worked in the main office of an online shopping MLM company. When I left the company, I got involved with a few of the guys I met in a new company and dove into the Stay At Home Moms (SAHM) world. I jumped into Yahoo groups and forums. I taught myself how to hand-code HTML to create websites, had a small printing company, trained as a VA and a Christian Life coach.
During this time, I started homeschooling my boys in 2005. (I have a daughter, but she was a junior in HS and didn’t want to come home.)
I started a coaching program for teens, helping them find ways to make money online. Somewhere along the line, around 2009, I had the idea to incorporate their spiritual gifts to find an entrepreneurial direction.
But then life happened; I got married and enjoyed spending time with my husband. I let the business take a back seat. I “played” at doing business for a few years, helped build a couple of websites for friends, printed wedding invitations as gifts to several brides, started leading our homeschool cover and co-op, just letting life take me where it would.
In 2011, my oldest son, Dustin, decided he wanted to return to school to play football, and like any good homeschool mom, I wanted to make sure he was where he needed to be. I had him take a placement test and an aptitude assessment.
I was stunned when the assessment said my big, athletic son would be a great accountant. I mean, I thought, “really, had they met my son?” Not to mention he had sleep apnea and fell asleep if he sat still at a desk.
A couple of years later, when he was graduating high school, our church took everyone through their spiritual gifts and DISC personality profiles. And much to my surprise, Dustin’s highest spiritual gifts were serving and giving. And his personality was a C/S, Competent Specialist, someone who likes to follow the rules and help others. It seemed perfect for accounting, right? He even started school to become a CPA, but as I discovered a few years later, this didn’t really give us the whole picture.
When my youngest was entering high school, I looked for something new to teach at our co-op; I settled on a career prep class. I took those kids through so many personality assessments and anything else I could find that was free or low cost that would help show their gifts, personalities, and strengths. They were the guinea pigs for Discerning My Calling.
As I mentioned earlier, I’ve been “online” for many years. I had snagged myname.com right after I got married. I believed Discerning My Calling to be a stand-alone product and the focus of everything as I entered this new time of learning to discern my calling and recreate myself as an empty nester. So, I used LesaDale.com as my business website.
Late in 2018, as I was preparing for the new year, I spent a lot of time listening to God, looking for goals, words, and verses to carry me through the next year. God gave me the word “Discover.” I spent a lot of time that year discovering how to partner with God in my business to become a Kingdom Entrepreneur.
As the beginning of 2019 rolled in, God told me that he had been trying to get my attention for several years. He kept bringing up spiritual gifts with personalities and business. It was not all about me. It was about Him, and we needed a new name. Thus Life Walk GPS was born.
